Now that you have decided to put up your tutorial business in the Philippines, it’s time to learn how to set it up in order for your tutorial business to grow.
It is important to have a plan when setting up your tutorial business.
Remember too that the students are the core ingredient in the success of your tutorial business that is the reason why you should always take them into consideration in your plans.
Here are some guides when setting up your tutorial center.
Choice of Materials
Let’s start with the materials.
While there are numerous ways to find materials for your tutorial business, it is always better and more economical when you let someone make the tables and chairs.
How to make the tables and chairs:
Materials for the table
- ½ inch plywood
- Formica (this is good because you can choose the color you want for the table)
- 2×2 lumber
- Aluminum edge
How to do it:
- Cut the plywood according to your desired size. You can even use the whole plywood to make a wide table or to make it better, cut it into two so that you will have two tables.
- Do not make the table too high for the children. It must be lower than the standard height of the dining table since the kids will be using it to work on.
- Finish the table with the Formica top then put the aluminum edge to make the rough sides safe for the kids. The good thing about Formica top table is that it is smooth and easy to clean.
- The carpenter will take care of the job of course but you have to tell him your desired size and style.
As for the chairs, you can find some good quality chairs in furniture shops or in thrift shops where furniture are usually cheaper and sometimes better in quality.
Qualities for good chairs for children:
- Chairs should be strong enough to hold the bigger children.
- Chairs should be heavy to stay in place.
- Chairs should not easily break.
- Chairs should not be too light because light chairs easily topple down.
Tables, desks, chairs and cabinets must be cheap but sturdy. Children move a lot so they need chairs and tables that do not easily topple down.
This is the reason why I suggested that you should let someone make the table and if possible the chairs.
We use whole plywood (3/4” thick) for our table then covered it with Formica. Formica makes the table neat and smooth which is safe for the children.
One more thing; you should make the edges curved not sharp.
All edges must be safe for the children.
The size and height of the tables and chairs should be appropriate for the children.
When the chairs and tables are done, you can paint them to make them more presentable.
These tables and chairs will become investments for the future.
You are now set to start your tutorial business.
Setting up the Room
Now that the tables and chairs are ready, you can now set your tutorial room in such a way that your students will be comfortable.
In our tutorial room, we have one long table that is wide enough to make space in the middle for putting books and other tutorial materials without disrupting the children at work
The long table is a good way to make tutoring more systematic.
You can reach out to all your students and you can easily tutor as many as six children in one session.
Here’s our schedule of tutorial classes:
The schedule depends on your students. In our case, we are tutoring students from the same school so we start at:

You can visit our Free tutorial site to have samples of worksheets
If you want your tutoring to be systematic; you have to make your own program of lessons and prepare the worksheets ahead.
This could be tough for beginner tutors but once you get used to it; everything will be as easy as walking in the park.
How to solve the problem of tutoring different grade levels with different capabilities.
Yes, the solution is in the worksheets.
You have to prepare the worksheets beforehand.
It is like making a lesson plan after classes but what you are preparing are the worksheets for the children the next day.
How you do this is up to you.
In our case, we list down all the lessons then we make exercises based on the lesson for the children to work on the next day.
Group the children by grade levels so that tutoring them will be more organized.
Schedule the students with special needs at the last session so that they can extend their time.
